The EUDR changes what it means to import tropical timber into the European Union: before goods are placed on the market, the importer must be able to show where the timber comes from, that it was harvested legally, and that the land was not deforested — with obligations phasing in by company size.

Origin, precisely identified
Timber must be traceable to the plots of land where it was harvested — vague "country of origin" statements are no longer enough.
Legal harvest
Evidence that the timber was produced in accordance with the laws of the country of origin — licenses, management plans and transport documents.
Deforestation-free
Assurance that the source land was not subject to deforestation after 31 December 2020.
A due diligence statement
Before placing timber on the EU market, the operator files a due diligence statement in the EU information system — built on the evidence above.

Origin-to-export traceability under the correct legal backbone for each species — IBAMA in Brazil, SERFOR in Peru, and CITES Appendix II permits for Ipê and Cumaru.
